Pick of the Week

Chef

My favorite movie so far this year. It's also—I think—a metaphor for the very talented director Jon Favreau's experience working with the powers-that-be-way-too-powerful in Hollywood. Funny, warm delightful.

Million Dollar Arm

A nice movie that could've been better with a tighter script. The director, Craig Gillespie, used to work for me. Sweet guy makes good.

Godzilla

Absolutely terrific performances by all the monsters. But cover your eyes and ears—especially your ears—for most of the scenes with humans. I don't know what was scarier—Godzilla, or Bryan Cranston's hair piece? Monsters A-, humans C-.

Locke

Brilliant, illuminating, miraculous, tedious.

Blended

I have the feeling that Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore are very nice people and loving parents. They're also talented and can get films green-lit. They should do much better than this.
