Shutter Island

Maybe they should have called it Shudder Island. Lots of icky visuals (Sue walked out). Good DiCaprio, good Scorsese. But the makers couldn't decide whether it should be a thriller or an art film. And it doesn't completely succeed as either. Not for me, anyway.

The Wolfman

Good story, disconcerting direction, very curious cast.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

My 12-year-old and his buddy were split about this one. Me too. Never boring, but lots of clunky scenes. The book, as always, was better.

Cop Out

When I was a kid, we had double features and everyone went away satisfied (or at least exhausted). Cop Out is very funny at times and could have been a classic 10-minute-skit on Saturday Night Live.

The Crazies

The Crazies is another zombie-ish plague story, though very well crafted. Bring back the old double feature!
