The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

This is a thriller I'll see for a second time. Director Tony Scott can be a little incoherent at times, but not here. Scott and Denzel Washington always work magically together. John Turturro and John Travolta have rarely been better, especially Turturro. I liked the original film made after John Godey's book, but this one is even better.

Year One

If I could be the 11- or 12-year-old boy targeted by this movie, I would yell—"This is way below my intelligence level!" I very much like Michael Cera's smart-timid act, but if it shows up in too many movies like this, I'll start to hate it. As I do Jack Black's' dumb-loud routine. Some funny lines. Way too much bathroom humor—even for an 11-year-old like myself.

Easy Virtue

Something went wrong with this highbrow comedy, and it's not just the miscasting of Jennifer Biel.

Chéri

Looks beautiful and Stephen Frears definitely has a terrific track record. Unfortunately, the story didn't quite grab me—though Michelle Pfeiffer and her young lover were just fine. Also, the ending felt like they had simply run out of film.
