A Conversation with James Patterson about
Maximum Ride
In this week's Celebrity Minute, we take a special [behind the scene] look at the #1 bestselling young adult book, Maximum Ride, which by the way just announced a deal for the big screen with Warner Brothers. Here to tell us about the book is the author with two current best sellers, James Patterson.
Q. James, how are you?
A. I'm doing good, how are you?
Q. Now, you're known for your thrillers and mysetries. This book is quite different -- what was your inspiration?
A. Well, I wrote an adult book
When The Wind Blows which was a best seller about flying kids, and everywhere I went I heard "you got my kids reading." So I wanted to write a book that both adults and young adults would turn on to.
Q. So it was important to you to write a book that would appeal to young readers?
A. I love the idea of getting people reading. I know that a lot of kids are going to read this book and go "books are cool."
Q. And what is "cool" about Maximum Ride?
A. Maximum Ride is about six kids who can fly. It's kind of a modern day Peter Pan. In this book, you will really feel what it's like to fly.
